After my elcheapo Aldi fire-pit spat the dummy a week ago (fell in half from rust)I decided to make one yesterday out of a old trampoline we had sitting around (was actually in the trailer ready to head for the tip). All the frame for the fire-pit was made from the frame and net supports of the trampoline, and the steel liner was from some old steel storage boxed I had sitting around. All it cost me was $85 for a 5kg spool of fluxed mig wire (ran out during the job so had to buy another, lots left over for next job) and a beer or two, alot more but who was counting ;)
Gave it a trial run.
Realized the pit needed more sheet metal on it higher up and in the corners, so more work today fixing them up. Then Figured it needed something else. So wandered of and measured up the grill plate on our 6burner bbq, then promptly made a swing arm and a holder for the grill to sit on. Now we have a nice little swing arm that can go over the fire pit and cook on (actually pinched the idea from my brother, bloody awesome I thought). Broke it in again tonight with bass and baramundi fillets (wrapped in foil separately) in lemon juice, pepper, salt, and a big dollop of butter. came out a treat.
