Anyone had this before? UK

if you have the windscreen demister on as in defrost the thermos will run all the time as it uses the aircon to do so
I went through the same thing with my el and after lots of research that is what i found out hope that helps Jason

what position was the switch that you select the place for your air to blow
Ie does it have something like a person seated and a bit that looks like a windscreen with like a wavy look to it in a half and half type look. if so it will still use the aircon and that will be why the thermo fans will still run on the half and half setting Jason

Turn on the aircon the thermo kicks in straight away. Turn off the aircon and it keeps going (direction options in any position) I have to turn the engine off to stop the thermo fan UK

sounds normal to me as the ecu thinks that it has to cool things down even though the car is still cold
I thought the same thing and had all the wiring tested then come to the conclusion that it is normal Jason

had a friends EL do the same
his was a sticky relay too, i had a spare one that fixed the problem there is a block of 3 just infront of the airbox, pull the cap/cover off and there they are. have the ign on, so the fan starts, then remove the relays one at a time. the one that makes the fan stop is the faulty one.

G'day Uncle Ken, can you put your dash in diagnostics mode? Just to see what temp the fans first come on- (once motor reaches 80 deg the fans activate on low speed), my fans come on if i put the a/c on and stay on if a/c turned off when cold too. Fans are designed to fail on On also.
Check this out for further info, might help. http://www.fordaustraliaforums.com/f...6-Cooling-fans cheers,Maka

just an evil thought, if it turns out to be an expensive autobox out job is needed , perhaps rewiring the fans with an after market tempreture control unit? i`m thinking less than a 100 buks would get it done?

looks like a few good units there, i remember having a davies craig one many years ago, it came with the adjustable temperature switch, relays and the mercury filled copper doover (can`t remember the correct name....old age is a *****), it also came with a piece of rubber with a slot in it so you could slide the mercury filled bulb into the radiator hose , it worked well.
.....capillery . here`s a davies craig one, i would think a 40 amp relay could do both but i would have 2 just to be sure, i found out as a young bloke with a warm 289 thermo fans draw a lot of power and can run for extended periods, over kill with wiring and relays is acceptable on these items ;). http://www.daviescraig.com.au/Contro...4-details.aspx my young brother had a sort of home made unit, he bought a temperature switch from jaycar, very small unit no bigger than a 5 cent piece with 2 terminals coming out of the top of it with a few different temperature`s available, his was 180 f that you secure to a hot part of the engine, using solder, epoxy glue it or cut a hole in a bit of rubber hose then gently hose clamp it to the thermostat housing or some part you think would be ideal for a temperature reading, then some decent qaulity wire and a couple of relays, it worked ok , but you need to find a bit of the motor that warms up a little quicker as when we did it we found it came on a little higher in the temperature range before it switched on, a bit past half way, then once the fan started it would cool down to halfway no probs, but i think our positioning of the sender was a bit crappy, mind you all up it probably cost 20 buks with single relay/wire/sender. jaycar also has kit adjustable fan controllers pretty cheap, not sure about these, less sure about my soldering/electrical skills , , probably ok, not being an electrical dude i sorta liked the fan controller unit from DC. |

I'm going to look into it and have a think. Will chat with my 'car nut' mate down the road and see what I can find on the net. The Davies stuff looks good (I have an auto trans rad from them). There is some interesting stuff from the states as well. For me being a non sprakie is how to stop the reading from the broken sensor in the tranny and makeing the ECU/fan (is that right) look for the reading from the 'new' sensor.
