Just a bit of background on me. I have done 13months of a Plumbing Apps before being laid off due to lack of work. I have been out of it for nearly 2months now and am debating whether to go back into that trade. Since then I have been working for my fathers furniture removal business. Not keen to take that over when he retires later on next year.
Out of the blue my panel beater who painted JAZSXY, rings me up today an pitches an offer of a possible apps with him next year. As he has several big dollar USA cars on the cards, Camaro's, Stangs, Challangers etc and is looking for someone he can trust to be there and to learn the work. I have little knowledge in this area, workwise and the pay/job oppertunities once qualified. Who I be an idiot to knock it back should he take someone on?

TAKE THE JOB.
if you can get the chance to learn the art of high quality restoration work you should be set for life. its pretty hard to find a good spray painter / panel beater who is interested/experienced in doing restoration work so if you are any good at it you should always be able to get work. and someone with that kind of experience should be able to get better $$$ than someone who only knows how to bolt on new panels and paint them for insurance jobs.

You'd be a mad man not to take that opportunity. I'd be all over that job in a flash.

take it, there are plenty of blokes with $$ who will pay for high quality resto work. Learn the trade, then learn how to market yourself and start a business.

Thanks guys, Im having a sit down chat with him later on this week. He pretty much wants me over the boys who have done pre-apps at tafe as he has known me for a little while and knows what I am capable of around cars...rebuilding of the XY and mucking around with my Subaru Turbos.

its not just the money mate you have to be happy with what you do, i'd rather a medium paying job where i wake up and think life is great instead of a millionares job where you wake up grumpy as and ready to head butt someone from being unhappy, not saying painting is a bad job but just make sure you are happy with the type of work before you turn it into a career
