Hi, I just bought a 2007 Focus - it only came with one key and I would like a spare. Ford want $400 for a new key + remote and remote and Mr Minit around $200. I have done a bit of research on the net and it seems you can buy a blank with transponder on ebay for less than $30 and take it to a locksmith to get cut. That is where is gets confusing - some say you can program it yourself using the existing key, however in other places it says you need 2 existing keys to do this.
Any clarification would be much appreciated. I just want a cheap spare key that will open the door and start the car - don't even care too much about remote unlocking etc.. Thanks. By the way I am in Melbourne |

I think there are two "programming" actions.
The easy one is doing the remote control for locking. The other requires (as I understand it) Ford to hook up a computer to ensure the cars computer will recognize the ignition transponder in the key fob. Of course you also need the blank cut to fit the ignition lock barrel Shop around for the car computer mating at Ford cause it is said to be expensive |
