Cost to supercharge, options?

Hey all, firstly, i'm not aye you, just using his account while mine gets setup.

I have a stock standard AU Forte 6 cylinder. I'm thinking about doing something different to it other than a turbo. So i thought of a supercharger, as a few of the commies up here (the v6 ones) have superchargers on em so i thought i'd like to do this.

Now, i know nothing about the mechanical workings of a car so what i'd like to know is,

how much, and what would be required to get a supercharger for the least ammount of modifying to the engine, i'm guessing 8-10psi

and

same as above but say for a 14psi setup?

I'd set aside $10k from start to finish for a solid, reliable setup + insurance hike.

TBH if you really want a supercharged vehicle, and if you're not completely prejudiced/one-eyed, you'd be better off buying a cheap something with an L67 and whackin a smaller pulley on it. Tried, true and a helluva lot cheaper and easier.

Probably not a terribly dissimilar figure.
You'd probably see more power for your money with a turbocharger however.

hey windsor, forgive my dumb question, but would you happen to know if those kits come with everything required or would i need to still modify the engine in addition to what the kit would provide?

Im pretty sure the supercharger kits come with everything.

The turbo kits im unsure of but look like you may need some fuel system upgrades and tuning device.

Yeah upgraded pump and possibly injectors too as I dont see them listed there.

Supercharger you will get away with for $8k, buy a Raptor kit, custom tune, auto service and flush and trans cooler and shift kit, a few fuel items (pump, regulator, injectors) and a new exhaust (3 inch, extractors, cat).

There is also a kit coming from snort soon, using the M112 supercharger, should be good.

Capa ones are fairly over priced.

You get most of what you need to run around the 8-9psi mark, think around 200rwkw.
To get more you will need more mods like head and cam, etc etc.
You could step right up to a smaller pulley and aim for 250kw depending on how deep your pockets are.
Turbo's can go from the same price, up to and over 15k.
The snort kits come with most things, just dont supply everything you need completely.

Raptor kit comes with almost everything Im pretty sure, I think an XR6t Regulator and something else will also be needed, but dont quote me on that.

The manual is a bit iffy I think up around the 250kw mark, but again, I wouldnt know as I have an auto.

You will need a aftermarket fuel pump. Im using a walbro 255/ Will handle up to 600hp.

Get a tranny cooler too or you will cook ya trans very quickly with boost.

Raptor supercharger kits complete with flash tuner, injectors and a generic tune, all parts and instructions included. Very reasonably priced and can fit it yourself within 4-5hours.

Let me know if you need more info for the Raptor kits. I will try an assist.

was the walbro an in tank pump and do they just plug in or do you have to rewire for them thanks

I have a slightly different one, a GSS431. Its intank, and Chiptorque put it in for me, but it took a bit of messaging iirc to get it in, and made a new bracket for it.

Its an in-tank unit and plugs straight in, no other mods required.

Raptor have just finished their kit for the EB-AU 5L's too. They are just fine tuning the tune for the kit though, but so far in its un-intercooled state it pulled 190rwkw at 4000rpm and 510Nm or torque. There is more tuning needed, but Raptor estimates about 210-220rwkw un-intercooled with closer to 600Nm of torque once complete.

For ease of fitting, and the fact that the kit comes with almost everything, its a very good value for money choice. Especially for those that are happy with about 200-250rwkw and still keep their full exhaust systems. Oh speaking of which, I highly recommend a full exhaust system with the raptor. Headers I use are the competition pacemaker 4480's. They recommend a 3" exhaust with a high flow cat too. But Im using a 2.5" at the moment and it will still work with that size, just that your over all power wont be as much. This is something I plan to change in future.

That doesnt sound right. My car NA is already putting out more power than that.

They are underquoting I believe. I too think there is heaps more in it. Im just going on the outputs they got earlier on. Bare in mind thats just with a full exhaust, no other mods other than the s/c itself and only 4lbs of boost.

Well they are quoting on a base 180kW motor not a 220. And with just 4psi it's right on the money.

All too much money for my liking, and don't you have to get the supercharger engineered as well? As it comes under some clause relating to the department of (preventing fun) transport.
