I reckon you could ask a mechanic to go for a short drive with you so he can listen and maybe find the source. It's very difficult for a driver to find alone.

Cheers I prefer to fault find first before going to a mechanic, so far my efforts haven't yielded anything positive yet so workshop is next I think. Lately the car seems to have a few rattles and knocks coming from the engine bay. When I inspected the other day, I couldn't find anything obvious. The last mechanic said the turbo bar was loose and he claims he fixed it.
