Default Re: Ambulance cover

Hope everything is ok with SWMBO, Mowdit.

We've always had Ambulance cover, but not health insurance. I understand that any insurance is a risk/reward balancing act, but for the price, it really is a good investment, IMHO.

I broke my foot in a PWC incident back in 1998, whilst jumping waves in the surf at Lakes Entrance. I was transported from Lakes Entrance to the nearest hospital at Bairnsdale (around 40kms away) for x-rays and assessment and then on to Traralgon hospital (around 120km away) for surgery (I broke the 4 minor metatarsals and dislocated the joint between the metatarsals and the tarsal).

As you could imagine, this was a pretty stressful time for my wife and the last thing we needed was to be worrying about was how to pay for the ambulance fee. I have no idea as to how much that bill would have been as I never saw it, but expect it to have been quite expensive. With the ambulance cover, the cost never ever entered my mind.

We now purchase a 5 year family cover, not so much for any discount but just because we then don't even have to think about it that regularly. Ambulance Victoria even do the right thing by us and send out a reminder whenever the coverage is due again.
