Yes but I'm pretty sure NSW rate increases are still behind VIC. Meaning your electricity is cheaper. Also NSW has about 4 different tariffs and considering you have no pools etc you will be on the cheapest most simple.

How do they actually read these things remotely?
You'll notice there is black strip on the front of your meter box. That is how they collect the info.
